The San Antonio Spurs ruled Kawhi Leonard out of Wednesday’s season finale against the New Orleans Pelicans.
For one last time in the 2017-18 regular season, the San Antonio Spurs will take the court for a game. It’s against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, LA. Win or lose, this will impact the playoff seeding for both teams in the Western Conference.
Even for the final game of the season injuries will impact the Spurs. It’s the usual circumstance, however, as Kawhi Leonard will not play, according to the team’s official report.
As always, the “return from injury management” label was used on Leonard. No other players were listed for Wednesday’s game.
With the playoffs as the next stop, there’s no indication Leonard will suit up for any of the minimum games (four) that are set for Round 1. There’s no indication he left New York and returned to San Antonio, either, stemming from previous reports. At this point, no one should expect an update on his status until the offseason.
The usual group will take the court against New Orleans, eyeing a win and homecourt advantage in the playoffs. A win could get them this, pending how other teams in the playoff race perform over the season’s final days. Losing would drop them out of the top four and into the bottom half of the West, meaning their opponent will have the advantage.
For the chances of a win, the Spurs are 1-2 against the Pelicans. Their most recent head-to-head resulted in a victory, however. Will this be the case for the second consecutive game? Can San Antonio close the season on a three-game winning streak?
The Spurs and Pelicans will go head-to-head on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET on FSSW and FSNO.
