Spotlight on Lonzo Ball: The polarizing rookie notched his second-career triple-double against the Nuggets less than two weeks ago, compiling 11 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists in a 127-109 Lakers victory. Ball has been lauded for his court vision and savvy playmaking while averaging nine points, 7.2 assists and seven rebounds per game — all while managing potential distractions such as his brother, LiAngelo, being arrested with two UCLA teammates for shoplifting in China, and his father, LaVar, publicly feuding with President Donald Trump. But Ball’s shooting numbers remain dreadful: 31.5 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from 3-point distance and 46.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Lakers: They have lost three games in a row, but took the defending champion Golden State Warriors to overtime Wednesday before falling 127-123. … Brandon Ingram scored a career-high 32 points against the Warriors and is averaging 15.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. … Surprise rookie Kyle Kuzma, who is averaging 16.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, is questionable to play Saturday due to a back injury. … The Lakers entered Friday leading the NBA in points in the paint (55.2) and ranking second in fastbreak points (15.3 per game) and pace of play (105.49), third in blocked shots (5.9 per game) and fifth in rebounding (46.1 per game) and turnovers forced (16.6 per game). … Los Angeles entered Friday ranked 29th in turnovers (17.2 per game) and points in the paint allowed (13.7 per game), 28th in offensive rating (100 points per 100 possessions) and 24th in scoring defense (108.7 points allowed per game).
Nuggets: They are 9-2 at home and have won six games in a row at Pepsi Center. That includes Thursday’s 111-110 squeaker against the Chicago Bulls, a game in which Denver was without its entire starting frontcourt in the second half due to injuries. … Star center Nikola Jokic (sprained ankle) will miss Saturday’s game and the status of small forward Wilson Chandler (lower back pain) is unknown. … Sixth man Will Barton scored a career-high 37 points against the Bulls, including the game-winning layup in the closing seconds. … The last time the Nuggets faced the Lakers, Jokic and coach Michael Malone were both ejected for their behavior toward the officials. Malone was also suspended for Denver’s next game at Sacramento, while the NBA admitted Jokic should not have been ejected and rescinded his fine. … Gary Harris has scored at least 20 points in four of his last seven games and has swiped three or more steals in four of his last five games. He entered Friday ranked fifth in the NBA with 1.8 steals per game. … The Nuggets entered Friday ranked 29th in opponent field-goal percentage (47.8) and last in opponent points off turnovers (20.7 per game), though they tied a season low with nine points surrendered off turnovers against the Bulls. … Denver finished November 9-5 after not recording a winning month last season until March.
