LeBron James’ 32nd birthday a happy one after Cavs beat Celtics 124-118

CLEVELAND, Ohio — LeBron James is officially done playing basketball as a 31-year old.

The year went pretty well for him.

James scored nine of his 23 points in the fourth quarter of his last game before his 32nd birthday, which is Friday, and the Cavs edged the Celtics 124-118. Cleveland was ahead by 20 in the third quarter and 18 at the end of the period, and watched its lead dwindle all the way down to one point with less than a minute left.

Kyrie Irving led the Cavs with 32 points and 12 assists, but left the game with 53 seconds to go with an apparent right hamstring injury. He had converted layups on consecutive possessions to keep the Celtics from taking over.

Kyrie Irving left Cavs’ win over Boston with hamstring cramp

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs said Kyrie Irving left the team’s 124-118 victory over the Boston Celtics Thursday late in the fourth quarter because of cramping in his right hamstring.

Irving scored a game-high 32 points, but left the game after finishing a layup with 53 seconds left that put the Cavs ahead by three. He was clutching and trying to work out his right hamstring, and didn’t return.

The team doesn’t believe the injury is serious, but Irving stopped short of saying he’d be OK for the Cavs’ game Saturday in Charlotte.

“We’ll see how I feel in the morning,” said Irving, who scored nine in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 12 assists. He said he had a date with a “cold tub” when he got home.

LeBron James gives himself ‘F’ for 8 turnovers despite near triple-double in Cavs’ win over Boston

CLEVELAND, Ohio — What did LeBron James give himself for his 32nd birthday?

How about an “F” on his report card from the Cavs’ 124-118 win over Boston Thursday, hours before one of the NBA’s best players of all time turned 32.

“I think I was horrible tonight,” James said. “In every facet of the game, I was just pretty bad and it’s unacceptable. I can’t do that if I want to help this team get to where we want to get to. So, if there was a report card, I’d give myself a ‘F’ for tonight’s performance. I just got to be better.”

So we’re clear, James just missed a triple-double with 23 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds. He shot 9-of-18 from the field and scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting in the fourth quarter, while the Cs were racing back from an 18-point deficit. James closed the game with a strip-block of Al Horford with 3.2 seconds left and the Cavs ahead by four.
