Charlotte’s Slide Continues in Boston

Even without leading-scorer Kemba Walker in the lineup, the Hornets were able to hang with the hometown Celtics until the final few minutes before falling, 96-88, on Friday, Dec. 16 in Boston. A game of runs the entire night for both teams, Charlotte shot a season-low 32.7 percent from the field yet still led by double digits midway through the third quarter before the Celtics stormed back and took the lead for good late in the fourth. The Hornets have now lost a season-high-tying four-consecutive games as well as six of their last seven meetings with Boston.

Turning Point

Trailing 79-77 midway through the fourth quarter, Boston unleashed a 15-0 run to open up a game-high 13-point advantage over the visiting Hornets with 3:09 to go in the game. Overall, the Hornets were outscored 55-38 in the second half, knocking down just 13-of-48 attempts from the field (27.1 percent) while the Celtics connected on 19-of-38 shots (50.0 percent).

Hornets Player of the Game

Nicolas Batum finished with a team-high 22 points, a game-high-tying 10 rebounds, five assists and a game-high three steals in the defeat. Batum has now recorded a team-high seven double-doubles this season, five of which have come in his last eight appearances.

Celtics Player of the Game

Al Horford managed 18 points, a team-high eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and a game-high five blocks in the Boston victory. The five blocks by Horford are the most by any opposing player in any game against the Hornets this season.

Game Notes

Ramon Sessions finished with 13 points, six rebounds and a game-high six assists in his first start of the season… Marvin Williams added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists… Marco Belinelli (11 points) and Jeremy Lamb (10 points) both scored in double figures off the bench… Cody Zeller chipped in two points, a game-high-tying 10 rebounds and a team-high three blocks… The Hornets won the rebounding battle, 54-46, which included a 17-5 edge in offensive boards… Charlotte had 12 turnovers leading to 24 points for Boston while the Celtics had 13 giveaways leading to 14 points for the Hornets.
