Magic Johnson – Basketball Player And Entrepreneur

Magic Johnson once said: “If you’re a competitive person that stays with you”.  Magic Johnson Enterprises was founded more than two decades ago and has partnerships with several companies. Magic Johnson Enterprises is a private company that owns or helps operate companies ranging from more than a dozen 24 Hour Fitness centers, more than 100 Starbucks locations and food service companies. Magic Johnson Enterprises’ capital management business, for instance, raised, but didn’t deploy, $1 billion last year.

Johnson also announced his retirement from basketball but returned in 1992 and again in 1996.  Magic Johnson is famous for leading the Los Angeles Lakers to five National Basketball Association championships in the 1980s and for his ongoing rivalry and friendship with Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird.  Even if you didn’t follow pro sports, you knew Magic, whose last name, like Michael’s and Larry’s, was superfluous and was a part of the holy triumvirate that had saved pro basketball.

Hall of Famer and successful entrepreneur, Magic Johnson was born August 14, 1959 and is a retired basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.  Johnson went to Everett High School where he joined the basketball team as quickly as he could.  As a rookie one of his favorite things about playing for the Lakers would be getting to play along side basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He fell in love with basketball at an early age watching his heroes such as Earl Monroe play.

Magic Johnson played on the 1992 Summer Olympic men’s basketball team. Johnson was chosen to compete in the 1992 Summer Olympics for the US basketball team, dubbed the “Dream Team” because of the NBA stars on the roster.  For his feats, Johnson was voted as one of the 50 Greatest Players of All Time by the NBA in 1996. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.

The Magic Johnson Foundation, founded by Earvin “Magic” Johnson in 1991, works to develop programs and support community-based organizations that address the educational, health and social needs of ethnically diverse, urban communities.
