National Boston’s design division, National Ministry of Design recently completed designing and animating some very distinctive LEDs for the Boston Celtics 2015/16 season. They were designed to help enhance the original package, which NMD designed last year for the 2014/15 season.
Design Directors Jean McCarvill and Dave Allen, and Designer/Animator Ed Lee created the LEDs using skinny strip-like dimensions (12528 x 32 px and 4584 x 36 px) to create the 360 LEDs, which wrap around the entire arena. The Jumbotron rings above and below the main video board were designed at 3456 x 64 px and 2272 x 64 px.
Ed designed the music synced intro LEDs (one featured below) that run in tandem with the crowd rousing Celtics video board open. The energizing LEDs feature green shamrocks, moving arrows and strips, a light bulb effect and lightening which travels all the way around the arena in an effort to electrify the crowd.
In addition to the intro LEDs, the NMD team also designed a :10 Countdown, Tip Off, Dance Team, Green Team, Lil’ Phunk Dance Team, Dunk Team and Lucky LEDs which all made their debut during the season home opener at TD Garden on Wednesday, October 28th.
In order to showcase the skinny-sized strips, National Boston’s HD editor Bill Stuart (who created many of the LED variations) created a 3D stadium environment complete with 360 upper and lower LED displays, a jumbotron with main video board with rings above and below and basketball hoops on either end of the court. The realistic 3D stadium environment is an ideal way to showcase the skinny-sized strips to potential new clients. It truly gives the viewer the sense of what it feels like to be sitting inside a sports arena. To check out this year’s intro LED in the 3D stadium environment, please click on the link below.
