For sports fans travelling to Boston during January or February 2011 there is plenty to on offer to cater for all tastes. From basketball and football to a variety of other sports Boston is a hot bed of sporting activity in the New Year.
Boston is home to the 3 time Super Bowl champions The New England Patriots. The New England Patriots or “Pats” as they are know to their fans play in the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA on the outskirts of Boston. On January 2nd the “Pats” take on the Miami Dolphins in the Gillette Stadium. The Miami Dolphins are arguably one of the most recognisable names in American Football and this match will be a showcase of football excellence.
Boston is also the proud home of the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics are a team steeped in history and have won 17 NBA championships, more than any other NBA franchise. From 1957 to 1969, the Celtics dominated the league winning 11 championships in 13 years, and eight in a row (1959–1966), the longest consecutive championship streak of any North American pro sports team. The great success of that era has not been replicated in recent times although the team is now finding traction and putting wins on the board. There is also a link between the Irish and the Celtics who wear a green shamrock as their home colour and have a leprechaun as their mascot. There will be many games during the New Year in the TD Garden, here are some highlight games to look out for:
Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic – Jan 17th
Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers – Feb 10th
Boston Celtics vs. New Jersey Nets – Feb 16th
Boston’s ice hockey team is The Boston Bruins. Boston currently has the second highest total of Stanley Cup championships won by an American team at five, with the Detroit Red Wings winning 11. The Bruins home ground is The TD Garden, the same as The Celtics. Upcoming Bruins games include:
Boston Bruins vs. Minnesota Wild – Jan 6th
Boston Bruins vs. San Jose Sharks – Feb 5th
